Huawei B593 different models

Just to clarify: My exact mode of Huawei 4G router is CPE B593u-12.

So my previous writings about 3's firmware and Saunalahti's firmware are specific to that exact model. According to 4G LTE mall website following models exist:

B593u-12: FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz
B593s-22: TDD 2600 FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz (Speed to 150Mbps)
B593s-82: TDD 2300/2600MHz
B593s-58: TDD 1900/2300/2600MHz
B593s-58b: TDD 1900/2300MHz
B593u-91: TDD 2300/2600MHz
B593u: LTE FDD 850/900/1800/1900/2600 MHz
B593s: Band 42 (3400-3600MHz)
B593u-513
B593s-42
B593u-501
B593u-41
B593s-601

In Finland the most common models are the two first ones: u-12 and s-22.

There are number of discussions for getting a new firmware (they even copy/paste stuff from my blog without crediting me as the author), but please carefully find out the exact model before upgrading. If you manage to inject an incorrect firmware, it will most likely brick your thing. I didn't try that and don't plan to.

What's funny is that Huawei does not publicly have a B593 in their product portfolio, apparently their only sales/support channel is via their client Telcos and they don't publish anything except the GPL-code required by GPL v2 license.

Sorry. For example the Finnish telco Saunalahti whose firmware I have used earlier (http://blog.hqcodeshop.fi/archives/14-Huawei-B593-4G-router-SMS.html), publicly states that there are no upgrades available for B593s. I don't know of any, if somebody knows and reads this, please comment.

unfortunately i dont have yet the tool.. but ive seen it to my mate yes it is a tool for b593 im sure of it i tried the b593u firmware to myb593s 22 modem butit will not allow to continue.. it is a tool provided by huawei and noted their confidential.. i ask a copy but my mate want to exchange it for a firmware of b593s 22..

Sorry, no I don't. For example, the u-12 and s-22 look exactly the same. I haven't seen any other types of "live" units.

If you can get your hands on the actual unit, the information is printed to the sticker (see: http://blog.hqcodeshop.fi/archives/127-Huawei-B593-different-models.html).

Thanks for the info. I did download one firmware there, but it seems to be in a completely different format than u-12 firmwares are. Based on the assumption, that the files are real (as in: not fake ones), they redid the B593 into a completely new router for s-22.

Anyway, I'll keep studying those.

There are number of links to u-12 firmware in this blog. s-22 firmware is difficult to come by. The upgrader .exe for s-22 is pretty much useless without the actual firmware file.

I had a B593s-22 by Elisa. I vant to install a universal firmware, but any time, if i use update software coming with firmwre, i got message -> error 10, port not found. Can you help me.

I also studied the firmware of the B593s-22. There is only one bin-file, no trx.

Got tons of entrys at extracting, two times YAFFS ... mmh, can that be?

Did you already extract it successfully?

u-12 firmware can be extracted easily with FMK, but s-22 I fail to pop. Since my box is a u-12, I've didn't put much effort into s-22, but it looks something entirely different.

I also extracted firmware for B593u-12 successfully using FMK. But extracting only worked with trx-file, didn't work using bin-file. I don't know why. Usually difference between trx an bin should be 32 byte ... but not here. I could not find passwd-file, neither /etc/passwd nor /var/sshusers.cfg. Where is it?

You're absolutely right. The files are not in the image, but are created run-time from /var/curcfg.xml. If you've followed the discussions here, I keep referring to The Exploit a lot. That allows you to see the files in a running box.

My personal opinion is, that Huawei engineers designed the Linux to run this way simply to make cracking the box a bit more difficult. A single XML-file controls the entire environment, and it is read by a binary file to execute the configured tasks.

I'm speculating here, my own box is the older u-12 model. But what I'm thinking is that Elisa firmware blocks a local port with firewall, but the port is needed for something during the upgrade. Thus, the error message and a failure.

Without possibility to change the firewall rules, this will be a very difficult fix.

Flashing via TFTP and BOOTP works on a lot of routers ... should also work on Huawei B593. But you have to know how to set the B593 in BOOTP mode.

Does anyone know how to set B593 in BOOTP mode?

Here is a summary how TFTP/BOOTP works at Speedtouch/Thomson/Technicolor routers: http://thomsontech.weebly.com/uploads/1/6/5/9/16595784/using_tftp_to_load_firmware.pdf

But this methodology also works with other routers. The challenge is to know how to set the B593 in BOOTP-mode. To set a router in BOOTP-mode is usually done by pressing some buttons on the router in a special sequence ... assumed that a router supports that mode. BOOTP was developed before DHCP. Usually when a device supports DHCP it also supports BOOTP.

The other way is know the root access of CLI shell to deactivate firewall.

Thanks for the link. I typically use Linux for my TFTP-server, but I'd guess any will do. The protocol is very simple.

Anyway, I don't know if you can do a TFTP-upgrade for the firmware. All devices don't have that and I'm guessing that B593 is one of them.

Hello there, i am a very new on the problems with routers. I have a B593s-22. Installed by the company yesterday. Now i want to use VOIP. But in my Routerconfiguration are NO NAT or SIP fields. Does yours have this fields?

Ok, I have a u-12, not s-22.

What you need to do is pick another firmware to get other features. Unfortunately for s-22 there aren't that many of those available.

customized firmware is blocking factory firmware.
on my modem with V200R001B180D20SP05C69
i was able to upgrade firmware, but with simple trick.
i changed with hex editor in factory bin file 9 positions : V200R001B236D30SP00C00 on
V200R001B180D20SP05C69.
after that upgrade is possible.

with
V200R001B180D20SP05C260 maybe this
V200R001B180D20SP5C260 can work,
but you can kill modem if not

!!!!with hex editor you can only replace numbers, never overwrite with longer number!!!!.
now I need firmware V200R001B180D20SP05C69 because this soft is with ussd codes sender

The link you posted points to a website requiring registration. I don't know that site or have ever heard of it, but register/download at your own risk.

I personally wouldn't touch them with a pole. Any proper firmware is available without pay from a reputable source.

No I do not.

Given the current known security flaws, the default password is completely irrelevant. You can put anything you want there, altough, it is bit tricky. I'll write a tool to automate all that.

Not that I'd have an B593 u-91, or know how the unlocking works, or really need one as my u-12 is SIM-free. But it sure would be cool to have one.

This dreaded "equipment mode" interests me. How can you tell, that the unit is in "equipment mode"?

As I have been trying to un-brick my B593, it has occurred to me, that what if it is in equ mode. But I don't know how to tell if that's true.

Just want to confirm that i used Kolos suggestion on a router with original FW V200R001B180D20SP05C397
and edited the string V200R001B236D30SP00C00 in the Bin file to match the Routers original FW of V200R001B180D20SP05C397. Even though the though the string i input was one char longer it worked. The original string was followed by two blanks in every instance so i took a chance that i could use one of those blanks. Worked like a charm! and to be safe, after i flashed my "hacked" Bin file, i Re flashed with an untouched V200R001B236D30SP00C00.BIN which the router now did accept without problems. Really nice tip Kolo. Thanks!

i got new modem b315s-936 here in the philippines and i have successfully debug using rs232 just like your and i can manage to put it on usb mode but the usb port detect my conputer as unknown even thou i have already installed the latest driver of huawei hisilicon

It runs its latest firmware. V200R001B180D45SP02C74.
What I want to do is find and load firmware
that allows this modems capabilities that Huawei branded versions do.
