Jevgenij dropped me a comment about new firmware. It is from Telia Sweden and you can get it from here http://www.telia.se/privat/support/mobiltbredband/uppdaterausbmodemorouter#huaweib593formac=&tabMenu_0=huaweib593formac The direct download link is https://www.telia.se/dms/mgnl-ext-dms/www-telia-se-ui/installation-files/se_telia_r-m-h-s.tar/se_telia_r-m-h-s.tar.bz2 The firmware seems to have nice features, SMS and even to force for 2G-operation. He highly recommends this one. This looks very promising, perhaps I'll try this myself.
I upgraded my B593 with this one and can confirm that it works well. GUI-languages are: Svenska, Suomi, Pусский, Norsk, Dansk, Eesti, Lietuviu and Latviešu. No setup wizard. Has external antenna support. No VoIP. No DDNS. Mode selector has 5 options: auto, auto 3G/4g, 2G only, 3G only and 4G only. SMS in/out. No DLNA. So it is little bit light on features, but is fully exploitable and SP102!
The file will contain a SP102 for u-12. Altough The Exploit does not work, it seems to have a nice bug in it. When you're FTPing into it, it will open also SSH-port! Whaat!
Warning:
SSH passwords are reset to something the telco set. However, USB/FTP-hack will work and you can get the /var/sshusers.cfg and look at the plaintext password from there.

Another little breakthrough. There is a AT command line application in the shell. It's called lteat.
B593u-12 seems to share same or similar chipset to usb modem E398 - Qualcomm MDM9200 and I found all commands to control LTE/3G bands on some German forum.
Tested LTE 800 and then back to all. Seems that B593 is actually responding!

Thanks for sharing this. I did build a cross-compiler for MIPS32 and was going to write exactly this type of application myself.
You truly have been busy with your B593. Hard work seems to pay off. I truly appreciate you sharing your findings with all of us. Thank you again, sir!

Hi, you see to know so much about our Huawei B593-12. it looks like mine got a problem, the external antenna is not working.
I tried all the firmware's i could find, mine was installed with SP052 with no settings for external. It should find it automactically but did not. So i tried all the firmware where you can select the external antenna, but i drop from 1 bar to 0 bar with the external antenna set.
Should i just return the modem and ask for a new one? Or is there a fix for this you or someone knows about? I bought it here online in the philippines so returning will take weeks.
I bought the external antenna together with the modem, but also tried a old antenna i still had and even a 3g booster to force it to detect. But in all configuration there in 0 signal. Just hoping the is a know defect with a knows solution.
Someone?

Which connector did you use? See: http://www.4g-netti.fi/media/catalog/product/cache/10/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/b/5/b593_ymparisateileva.jpg
There are 2 of them. Most cases people have only 1 antenna cable to connect to (that's what I do). When looking at the connectors facing directly you (as in the above pic), you're supposed to use the rightmost external antenna connector.
But the real problem here is, that what you describe is really weird. When I connect the external antenna, I gain 1 or 2 bars for the connection, not go to zero. To me that sure sounds like a malfunction in the B593 or in the antenna. If that would be my unit, I'd definitely go back to the store and demonstrate the non-functionality to a sales clerk. There is the 5% chance that it works at the store and the problem has something to do with cell towers at your place. So, definitely worth taking the unit back.

I finally got it to work now with the sp54 firmware and reconnected all cables. Don't understand why the other firmwares did not work for me.
Now waiting for the helpers to come to climb the roof and get the grid antenna high enough

Jari Turkia on :
There are a number of Huawei specific modules in the Linux-side that connect to the LTE-side of the box. And regardless what they distribute as "source code" in their website, those parts aren't there.
Also, I remember seeing somebody mentioning that the box can be booted into an own Linux image, no LTE-access nor LEDs blinking of course. I just cannot find the link right now. Without LTE, it's just an underpowered Linux-box without proper storage. There exist much better boxes for that.

Any possible SIM-locking your device may have is a completely different issue.
